Halloween Parade

PUre at the nyc halloween parade

We will leading the famous Greenwich Village Halloween Parade with city shaman, Queen Mama Donna to bless a crowd of 2 million people. Our intention is to help transform the streets from their secular state into pathways of sacred ground. The blessings will be for the safety and sanctity of the city and all of its inhabitants. We will lead the parade along the entire route performing bellydance and our new awakening Lotus choreography symbolizing connectivity, community, and peace. We will be all in white and silver to symbolize the purity of our intentions.

Ragen Chastain

We're pleased to host extraordinary dancer, writer and "Health At Every Size" activist Ragen Chastain. Known best for her celebrated blog Dances With Fat ( http://danceswithfat.wordpress.com ), Ragen is a three-time National Champion dancer who writes and speaks frequently about self-esteem and body image. She is currently featured in the documentary America the Beautiful 2 – The Thin Commandments, released October 2011 by Warner Brothers. http://americathebeautifuldoc.com/2/atb/the-thin-commandments/ This Sunday she will treat PURE members and guests to a custom PlayShop -- LYRICAL MOVEMENT FOR LARGER BODIES -- where we will explore contemporary dance, enhancing movement vocabulary while reinforcing body appreciation. Six months' bellydance training is preferred, but not required.

Ragen is based in Austin, Texas and does not make it to New York very often, so don't miss out! PURE Members --

Developed in 2009 by the members of PURE-NYC, a multi-level collective of dancers and musicians who strive to bring change, beauty, and awareness to the world through ancient and modern world dance, PURE Reflections has been performed with different casts of over 25 dancers in NY, CT, Japan and is heading to Taiwan and Florida in the Fall.

Rooted in Middle Eastern dance (bellydance), while taking inspiration from Modern, African, Flamenco, Butoh and other dance forms, PURE Reflections: Beauty Reimagined is visually stunning, poignantly touching, and deeply thought provoking.

PURE Foundation

What: Learn the PURE Foundation choreography to perform for peace with flash-mob bellydance on Saturday September 10th 1.30pm to 4pm at Union Square and the NY public library in partnership with September Concerts. (See YouTube video of the 2004 PURE procession.) PURE uses movements that are inspired by ancient sacred circle dances, Tribal and Cabaret bellydance, Flamenco, Indian and Folk dance.

Requirements:
PURE is open to all dancers who have basic knowledge of bellydance and are willing to try something different and work as a team. There are no limits on age, size, shape, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class or sexual orientation except for a desire to offer your dance for the purposes of peace and community.

If you have performed the Foundation already, you have to attend a minimum of one workshop/refresher. If you are new to it, you will need to attend a minimum of two.

Costume:
White skirt and top of your choice, skywater blue veil, flowers in your hair
